- The Department of Food and Nutrition is a pioneer department among the State Agricultural Universities to start its M.Sc. programme in 1970 and Ph.D. programme in 1974. Till date 327 M.Sc. and 78 Ph.D. students have successfully completed their programmes.
- The department started B.Sc. Nutrition & Dietetics 3 yr. programme in 2009-10 which was upgraded to B.Sc.(Hons.) Nutrition & Dietetics 4 yr. programme in 2012-13. The department is also offering courses to students of B.Sc. (Hons.) Community Science 4 yr. programme.
- The department has trained Faculty: Professors-4, Assistant Professors and equivalent -5, Research Fellow: 2 and Teaching Assistant:7
- The department is running All India Co-ordinated Research Project on Women in Agriculture sponsored by ICAR since 1980 and Nutrition awareness training program for rural girl students since 2009. Besides this, the faculty of this department has completed 14 projects as Principal Investigator and 11 projects as Co-PI sponsored by ICAR, ICMR, DBT, DST, CIPHET, Nestle India Ltd, Harvest Plus, etc.
- The faculty members have been trained at the world renowned institute like Cornell University, USA, Massey University, New Zealand, International Rice Research Institute, Philippines and Agarkar Research Institute, Pune for improving knowledge and skill in the area of Community Nutrition. The faculty and students are actively participating in various National/International Conferences by presenting research papers and has won 27 awards as Young Scientist Award, J.N. Bose Memorial Award, Kellogg’s Award, Sagarmal Goenika Award, Chaudhary Devi Lal Award , Nestle research awardetc. The postgraduate students are also getting various prestigious fellowships like Inspire, UGC/JRF/ICAR/ICMR/PAU Merit Fellowship/C.K. Hira Memorial Fellowship.
- The department has established an Experiential Learning Unit in Bakery & Confectionery in 2011. The students specializing in Food and Nutrition are given special training in the area of Institutional Food Service Management, Bakery & Confectionery and Catering Management.
- Faculty has published more than 500 research papers in national and international journals and more than 90 research papers have NAAS rating more than 6.0, published 700 popular articles in various magazines, newspapers etc. 6 bulletins both in Punjabi and English, to create awareness regarding nutrition among the community, published 7 manuals for practical classes of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- The students are well placed as Assistant Professor/Teaching Assistant/Research Fellow in Govt./Reputed Institutions and also Dietician in various reputed Hospitals like AIIMS, Fortis, Apollo, DMC, Hero Heart Centre, Raghunath Charitable, Deep Hospital, Govt. Medical College, Chandigarh, PGI, Chandigarh

- Cooking Laboratory: The laboratory is meant to conduct practical classes on cooking and preservation for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Institutional Management Laboratory : for large scale cooking.
- Baking Laboratory: To conduct bakery practical classes for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- PG Teaching Laboratory: To conduct analytical practicals for PG students.
- Equipment Laboratory: The hi-tech modern equipments are assembled in the laboratory for the use of research purpose.

Brief Introduction
Dr Kiran Grover is an accomplished academician and researcher with over 30 years of enriched experience in teaching, research, and extension in the field of Community Nutrition. She joined as Head, Department of Food and Nutrition on February 22, 2023. She began her academic career as an Assistant Professor of Home Science at KVK, Kapurthala in September 1992 and shifted to Department of Food and Nutrition at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana as Extension Specialist (Food & Nutrition) in August, 2003 and later promoted as Professor, designated as Principal Extension Scientist in January, 2009.
Throughout her distinguished career, Dr Grover has taught UG and PG courses and played an instrumental role in the revision and development of several courses, including B.Sc Nutrition & Dietetics. She has also acted as coordinator, paper setter, evaluator, and member of the Board of Studies for various UG and PG examinations and courses both within and outside the university. She has also mentored 21 M.Sc and 9 Ph.D students and has published 7 book chapters and a practical manual on Community Nutrition. She had also been the Programme In-charge for Master’s Degree conducted by IGNOU.
Dr Grover has made significant contributions to research in the area of Community Nutrition. She has successfully handled 4 research projects as PI/Co-PI funded by prestigious institutions such as the Rockefeller Foundation, Department of Science and Technology, and Government of Punjab. Additionally, she has acted as a Project Facilitator, CAPART, Chandigarh. She has published 85 research papers and 13 review papers, presented 62 research papers at National and International conferences, and been involved in the development and commercialization of technology of beetroot as a natural colorant. Additionally, she worked as a team member on research recommendations on microgreens included in PAU Package of Practices. She has been associated with 6 professional societies and worked as joint Secretary for Ludhiana Chapter of Indian Dietetic Association and Nutrition Society of India for two terms.
Dr Grover has also contributed significantly to the field of extension, empowering farm women, farmers, and unemployed/underemployed youth with knowledge and skill. She has organized 232 short duration, 54 vocational/long duration and 74 in- service in the field of Home Science, Food & Nutrition, Agriculture & Allied sectors. She has provided technical guidance to entrepreneurs and self-help groups. She has also delivered 56 Radio/TV talks and 178 lectures as a resource person to disseminate knowledge. Besides, she has published 4 bulletins, 149 extension articles, 175 monthly articles on household practices in PAU magazines - Progressive Farming and Changi Kheti, She has an honour to be a member of editorial Board of various Magazines & Journals. She has remained an active member of various committees at university, college and departmental levels.
Dr Grover’s contributions have been recognized with numerous awards and accolades. She has been awarded International Council of Science Fellowship by European Science Foundation (ESF) to participate in the World Conference at Lisbon, Portugal, and remained a Visiting Fellow with International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Philippines. She was also invited by University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Pakistan to present paper in an International conference. She was selected to participate in the Hosted Scientist Programme at Global Forum for Innovation in Agriculture, which focused on the fight against World Hunger and took place in Abu Dhabi; UAE . She is the winner of JN Bose memorial award in Community Nutrition, Swaran Padak award in Experimental Nutrition and Online Academician Competition by Nutritionist Republic US. She is recipient of 5 Best Presentation Awards in various National & International Conferences.

- Cooking Laboratory: The laboratory is meant to conduct practical classes on cooking and preservation for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Institutional Management Laboratory : for large scale cooking.
- Baking Laboratory: To conduct bakery practical classes for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- PG Teaching Laboratory: To conduct analytical practicals for PG students.
- Equipment Laboratory: The hi-tech modern equipments are assembled in the laboratory for the use of research purpose.
