SCHOOL STUDENTS FROM GSSS, HOSHIARPUR VISIT PAU-COA, BALLOWAL SAUNKHRI

A group of enthusiastic students from Government Senior Secondary School, Hoshiarpur, visited the PAU- College of Agriculture and Regional Research Station (RRS) at Ballowal Saunkhri for an enlightening educational tour. Led by Dr Swapnil Pandey, the coordinator of the visit, the students had the opportunity to gain valuable insights into the field of agriculture. The day began with a warm welcome and an orientation session in the committee room.

Dr Anuradha spoke about the advantages of pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, explaining entrance requirements and potential career opportunities in the field.

Dr Swapnil Pandey also provided an overview of the rich history of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) and highlighted the role of the Regional Research Station in advancing agricultural education and research.

Following the orientation, the students embarked on a comprehensive tour of the college campus. Mrs Kulwinder Kaur guided them through various facilities, offering an immersive experience of campus life. Dr KK Sharma acquainted students with research trails being conducted at RRS, Ballowal Saunkhri . The tour included visits to Nutritional Garden under the guidance of Dr Swapnil Pandey where students were introduced to the field of agricultural studies and research.

The students further explored the medicinal plant section and the RRS building, where Dr Varun Attri shared their expertise. The students were taken to horticulture and forestry research farm which was led by Dr Swapnil Pandey and Dr Varun Attri; and All India Coordinated Research Project for Dryland Agriculture Research farm by Dr MA Bhatt and Dr Balwinder Singh Dhillon; they were introduced to various dryland agriculture technologies and research trails. The Agromet observatory was demonstrated to students by Dr Navneet Kaur.

The students actively participated throughout the day, showcasing great interest and enthusiasm. This educational visit offered them a unique glimpse into the vast possibilities within the agricultural field and emphasized the importance of research and innovation in modern agriculture.
