PGS
The Postgraduate Studies (PGS) in the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) are headed by a Dean of Postgraduate Studies who is the Nodal Officer for the Postgraduate studies and is responsible for the administration of all the resident teaching programmes at the Postgraduate level in the University and for the development, evaluation and improvement of curricula and designing of the teaching methods to develop in the students professional competence, character and quality of leadership. The Dean PGS is responsible for the organisation and conduct of postgraduate teaching in all the constituent colleges of the PAU. The Dean in collaboration with the Director of Research, coordinates research of the postgraduate students in integration with the general research programme of the University. The Dean PGS presides over the meetings of the Postgraduate Committee. He is member of the Advisory Committee for Resident Instruction, Research Advisory Committee and Extension Education Advisory Committee. The Dean PGS provides, in consultation with the Heads of Departments, guidance and leadership in the development of periodic evaluation of effective curricula within each subject-matter and integration of said curricula into appropriate instruction programme designed to prepare students for effective careers in research, teaching and extension.

Anti-plagiarism Policy
- Hierarchical Structure
- Administrator: University Librarian, is the Administrator of TURNITIN. The Administrator has control of the operations of the software and coordinates with the software vendor in case the need arises.
- Instructor: The Administrator creates Instructor accounts of the PAU PG faculty in TURNITIN on demand under the instructions/ guidelines from Dean, Postgraduate Studies. These accounts are used to check plagiarism in the theses, synopses, research proposals, research papers, and other research documents of PAU students and faculty.
- Percentage of Similarity Permitted
The similarity of PG research will be checked at two stages, at the synopsis stage, and at the time of the submission of the final thesis.
Introduction 20% Review of Literature 50% Complete synopsis 30% - At the synopsis stage: Before the submission of the final draft of synopsis, the proposal should be run through this software. The maximum permissible percentage of similarity in the synopses of PG students is as follows:
- The first and the last two pages of the report of the synopsis and the thesis/dissertation/project report in PDF format generated using this software shall be duly signed by the student, the concerned Major Advisor and the Head of the Department. A soft copy of these reports in PDF format should also be submitted to the o/o Dean PGS, along with the final synopsis.
Introduction 30% Review of Literature 50% Material & Methods 25% Results 10% Discussion 10% Summary 10% Complete thesis 20% - At the time of final submission of thesis/dissertation: The final draft of the thesis shall be run through the software before its submission to check for similarity. The permissible percentage of similarity is as follows:
The first two pages of the report generated using this software shall be duly singed by the student, the concerned Major Advisor and the Head of the Department. A CD of the report in the PDF format should also be submitted to the o/o Dean PGS, along with the final thesis. Any thesis/dissertation/project report having similarity more than the prescribed percentage shall be reviewed by the researchers and the concerned advisor till it reaches within the permissible percentage.
Any synopsis/dissertation/project report having similarity more than the prescribed percentage needs to be reviewed by the student and the concerned Major Advisor in TURNITIN.
The bibliography, definitions, operational definition and formulae shall be excluded from the plagiarism check. Text in quotes and less than 1% similar text shall also be exempted in the synopses, thesis, dissertation and project report.
- Timeline: This policy came into force for the synopsis/final thesis/dissertation/project report submitted w.e.f. September 30, 2016.
The interested faculty may apply for the Instructor account in TURNITIN by providing the required information in the attached format. The request for TURNITIN account should be duly examined/vetted, recommended and forwarded to University Librarian, PAU at librarian@pau.edu by the concerned HOD/DDO.
