PAU CONDUCTS SOIL AND WATER SAMPLING IN SALEMPUR TO PROMOTE SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE
13-12-2024

The Department of Extension Education, in collaboration with the Department of Soil Science, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), has initiated a comprehensive survey on soil, water, and plant health under the ICSSR-funded project titled “Waste to Resource: Treated Wastewater Irrigation Management System for Sustainable Agriculture Under One Health Approach in Punjab.” The survey is being conducted in the adopted village Salempur, District Ludhiana.

A team of PAU scientists, comprising Dr Sumita Chandel, Dr Harsirman Kaur, and Dr Lakhwinder Kaur, carried out soil and water sampling with the support of local farmer S. Mewa Singh. The initiative aims to assess the impact of treated wastewater irrigation on soil health and agricultural sustainability.

During their visit, the team educated farmers on the importance of soil sampling and testing in maintaining soil health in intensive agricultural systems. The farmers, already mindful of their soil health, enthusiastically participated by submitting soil samples for testing. The results will be analyzed, and detailed soil test reports will be delivered directly to the farmers.
