Continuing its awareness initiatives, the Farm Advisory Service Centre (FASC) Sangrur, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organized another awareness camp on pink stem borer management in wheat at village Rajpura near Chhano. Dr. Ashok Kumar, in charge of FASC Sangrur, delivered an in-depth lecture on controlling pink stem borer infestation in wheat, providing farmers with recommended insecticide doses and management practices.

During the survey, localized patches of pink stem borer infestation were observed in some fields. Farmers were advised based on the severity of the attack. Dr Kumar recommended broadcasting 7 kg of Mortel/Regent 0.3 G (fipronil) or 1 litre of Dursban 20 EC (chlorpyriphos) mixed with 20 kg of moist sand per acre before the first irrigation for severe infestations. Alternatively, a spray of 50 ml Coragen 18.5 SC (chlorantraniliprole) in 80–100 litres of water per acre was suggested as an effective control measure.

The condition of the pea crop in the village was reported to be satisfactory, with farmers adhering to recommended practices, including chemical fertilizers and timely weed removal. Dr. Kumar also visited oilseed crop fields, emphasizing the importance of regularly monitoring insect-pest infestations and addressing nutritional deficiencies to ensure healthy crop growth.

The camp received positive feedback, with farmers actively engaging in discussions and seeking expert guidance for their fields.
