SIX-DAY TRAINING ON BEEKEEPING UNDER STRY INITIATIVE COMMENCES AT FASC, GURDASPUR

A six-day training programme on “Beekeeping” under the Skill Trainings of Rural Youth (STRY) Misc.52 (PC-5309) initiative began at the Farm Advisory Service Centre (FASC), Gurdaspur, with the participation of 28 trainees. The programme, scheduled from December 16 to December 21, aims to provide hands-on training and knowledge about beekeeping as a profitable subsidiary occupation.
Sh. Rajinder Singh Bal, District Extension Specialist (SM), inaugurated the training and welcomed the participants. He outlined the schedule, which includes lectures, practical sessions, and exposure visits to the beekeeping unit at Dehriwal and the honey processing plant at Dinanagar. He encouraged participants to actively engage in the sessions for maximum benefit.
Dr. Narinderdeep Singh, Senior Extension Scientist, delivered an insightful lecture on the scope and economic importance of beekeeping, emphasizing its potential as a supplementary source of income for farmers.
Dr. Sunil Kashyap from the Regional Research Station, Gurdaspur, gave a detailed presentation on the identification of honeybee species, their caste system, and lifecycle. He also introduced the participants to various beekeeping tools and equipment, highlighting their practical applications.
