PAU CONDUCTS TRAINING TO EMPOWER RURAL WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS THROUGH MILLET-BASED RECIPES
18-12-2024

The All India Coordinated Research Project on Women in Agriculture (AICRP-WIA) team at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) organized a two-day entrepreneurial training programme focused on millet-based recipes to promote women entrepreneurship in rural areas. The training, held under the guidance of Dr Kiran Bains, Dean, College of Community Science, was conducted for members of the Savera Ajeewika Self-Help Group (SHG) from village Jandiali, which was formed in August 2024 under the mentorship of Dr Ritu Mittal Gupta, Senior Scientist, EECM.

The SHG, previously trained by PAU on viable enterprise selection, was encouraged to start a collaborative group enterprise by Dr Ritu Mittal Gupta and Mr Gurpreet, emphasizing the benefits of teamwork in entrepreneurship.

Dr Renuka Aggarwal, Scientist (Food & Nutrition), and Dr Aditi Sewak conducted live demonstrations on preparing nutritious and marketable millet-based recipes, equipping participants with the skills to adopt these recipes for entrepreneurial ventures. PAU literature was also distributed during the session to provide further guidance.

The training witnessed the participation of the newly elected Sarpanch of Jandiali, Mr Gagandeep Singh, along with four Panch members, including a woman Panch, who joined the programme to inspire and motivate women from their village to explore entrepreneurial opportunities. The Sarpanch expressed gratitude to PAU for its significant efforts in empowering rural women through skill development and entrepreneurship training.
