PAU-FASC TARN TARAN HOSTS SCIENTIST-FARMER INTERACTION TO ADDRESS RABI CROP AND VEGETABLE CHALLENGES

The Farm Advisory Service Centre (FASC), Tarn Taran, organized a scientist-farmer interaction at Dubli village under the aegis of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU). Over 50 farmers attended the event, which addressed current field problems in rabi crops and winter vegetables while providing insights into innovative farming practices.
Dr Parvinder Singh, in Charge of FASC, Tarn Taran, discussed management practices for winter vegetables and shared techniques for off-season cultivation of summer vegetables using low tunnels, net houses, and playhouses to enhance yields and generate better income.
Dr Parminder Kaur, SES (Plant Pathology), delivered a lecture on the integrated management of insect pests and diseases in wheat, emphasizing the importance of proper pesticide application techniques for effective control and safety.
Dr Parminder Singh Sandhu, DES (Agronomy), addressed the farmers on integrated weed management in rabi crops and stressed the judicious use of fertilizers to maintain environmental sustainability and maximize profitability. He cautioned against over-fertilization, which can harm soil health and increase costs.
Dr Bhupinder Singh, Agriculture Officer, Patti, provided details on various schemes offered by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and discussed the availability and benefits of gypsum for improving soil health.
Farmers actively participated in the interaction, raising queries about field and vegetable crop challenges, which were addressed by the experts. An exhibition showcasing the activities of FASC, award-winning farmers, PAU literature, and dairy animal nutrition products were also displayed, providing additional resources and inspiration for the attendees.
The event concluded with Dr Parminder Singh Sandhu proposing a vote of thanks.
