PAU ORGANIZES TRAINING ON SOYBEAN AND MILK PROCESSING FOR FARMERS

Under the guidance of Dr Makhan Singh Bhullar, Director of Extension Education, the Skill Development Centre, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), in collaboration with the Department of Food and Technology, successfully conducted a five-day training programme on "Soybean and Milk Processing" for farmers and farm women from Punjab. Nine trainees participated in the training, which was held from December 16 to 20, 2024.
Dr Rupinder Kaur, Associate Director (Skill Development), highlighted the economic potential of soybean and milk processing as a profitable secondary enterprise for farmers. The training provided participants with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills for creating value-added products from soybeans and milk.
Dr Kulveer Kaur, Course Coordinator, discussed the significance of the training and shared insights about the various programs offered by the Skill Development Centre. Experts from the Department of Food and Technology, including Dr Arshdeep Singh, who covered the preparation of soy milk, tofu, and yoghurt; Dr Jaspreet Kaur, who demonstrated soy nuts, kulfi, and spongy rasgullas; Dr Antima Gupta, who explained soya pasta; Dr Kamaljeet Kaur, who taught about baked soybean products; Dr Hanuman Bobade, who provided insights on flavoured milk and yoghurt, delivered hands-on sessions to equip participants with practical knowledge.
As part of the programme, the participants visited Mr Gurpreet Singh's Soybean Processing Unit in Jangpur village, Ludhiana district, for an educational tour to observe commercial soybean processing.
The training concluded with a vote of thanks from Ms Kamaljeet Kaur, who appreciated the trainees' and university experts' active participation. She encouraged the participants to apply the knowledge gained during the training to establish their enterprises.
Additionally, the university organized four training programmes for 112 trainees from Jammu—Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. These sessions focused on mushroom cultivation, beekeeping, horticulture, floriculture, and integrated farming practices, further emphasizing PAU's commitment to skill development and agricultural innovation.
