SCHOOL STUDENTS FROM GSSS JHALLIAN KALAN, ROOPNAGAR, VISIT PAU COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE, BALLOWAL SAUNKHRI, FOR AN EDUCATIONAL TOUR

A group of students from Government Senior Secondary School, Jhallian Kalan, Roopnagar, visited the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) College of Agriculture & Regional Research Station (RRS) at Ballowal Saunkhri for an educational tour designed to introduce them to the field of agricultural science and research.

The visit began with a warm welcome and an orientation session in the committee room. Dr Jashleen Kaur Sidhu highlighted the benefits of pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, including entrance requirements, career opportunities, and an overview of the program's subjects. This inspiring session encouraged students to explore agriculture as a promising career path.

Following the orientation, Mrs. Kulwinder Kaur led the students on a campus tour, providing insights into campus life and facilities. During the tour, Dr Vijay Kumar, Dr Abrar Yousaf, and Dr Swapnil Pandey familiarized the students with various research trials conducted at RRS Ballowal Saunkhri. The students also visited the Nutritional Garden, farm pond, and demonstration plots, gaining practical knowledge about agricultural practices and research initiatives.

The tour also included visiting the medicinal plant section, where Dr Varun Attri shared insights into medicinal plant research, and the soil lab, where Dr Mohammad Amin Bhat introduced them to soil science. Dr Swapnil Pandey and Dr Varun Attri explained forestry and horticultural innovations at the horticulture and forestry research farm. Additionally, the students learned about dryland farming technologies and research trials under the All India Coordinated Research Project for Dryland Agriculture, guided by Dr Balwinder Singh Dhillon. The visit concluded with a demonstration of the Agromet Observatory by Dr Navneet Kaur, emphasizing the role of weather monitoring in agriculture.

The students actively engaged throughout the day, showcasing enthusiasm and a keen interest in agricultural education and research. The tour provided a unique opportunity to explore the vast possibilities in modern agriculture and emphasized the importance of innovation and sustainability in the field. Dr Manmohanjit Singh, Dean of PAU College of Agriculture, Ballowal Saunkhri, along with the staff members of RRS, expressed gratitude to the visiting students and school staff for their participation.
