KVK FATEHGARH SAHIB ORGANIZES TECHNICAL TRAINING PROGRAMME ON OILSEED CROPS AT VILLAGE MEHTABGARH

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Fatehgarh Sahib conducted a one-day technical training programme on oilseed crop production at Village Mehtabgarh. The programme was attended by 50 progressive farmers from villages Mehtabgarh, Bhuakheri, Naraina and Jhampur, aiming to enhance their knowledge of advanced agronomic practices, pest management strategies, and sustainable cropping systems for oilseed cultivation.

Dr. Amanpreet Singh, Assistant Professor (Agronomy), delivered a detailed lecture on scientific agronomic practices for optimizing oilseed crop productivity, including improved sowing techniques, nutrient management, and water-use efficiency.Mrs. Reet Verma, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection), provided an in-depth analysis of major insect pests and diseases affecting oilseed crops and elaborated on integrated pest management (IPM) strategies for their effective control. Dr. Arvindpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor (Horticulture), emphasized the significance of diversified cropping systems and intercropping with oilseed crops to enhance soil fertility and overall farm resilience.

The programme culminated in an interactive farmer-scientist discussion session, where participants shared their on-field experiences and sought expert recommendations for overcoming key challenges in oilseed cultivation. The scientific team addressed farmers’ concerns by providing practical, research-backed solutions and underscored the importance of adopting precision agriculture techniques for sustainable crop production.

The training initiative was well-received by the attending farmers, who expressed appreciation for KVK Fatehgarh Sahib's efforts in disseminating cutting-edge agricultural knowledge. The programme is expected to facilitate the adoption of best management practices among farmers, contributing to enhanced oilseed productivity and farm profitability in the region.
