To provide a healthy physical environment to the students, the University has a large sports complex and play fields spread over an area of 35 acres. Facilities are available for indoor and outdoor games. The following sports infrastructure is available at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana :-

/ Cultural Activities
Five major clubs are functioning in the University viz University Dance, Drama and Music Club, University Fine Arts and Photography Club, University Speakers’ Forum, Young Writers’ Association and Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle. Every club has its President and Secretary with Executive Committee members from each constituent college. Every club plans its activities at its own level during each academic session. Every year prestigious PAU Inter-College Youth Festival is held at the Campus and huge crowd cheers it up with great enthusiasm. Individual participants and teams selected from this festival represent PAU in the Punjab State Inter-University Youth Festival, North Zone Inter-University Youth Festival, All India Inter-Agricultural Universities Youth Festival and National Youth Festival held every year. The PAU students have been winning laurels in various events in these State, Zonal and National level Youth Festivals.

/ Conduct of NSO, NSS and NCC Programmes
University Workshop on Digital India
Donation Drive organized by NSS
Every student enrolling for Bachelor's degree course in PAU is required to participate in any one of the three fold programmes i.e. NSO, NSS and NCC in first and second year subject to the condition that NSO will be restricted to only those students, who show marked proficiency in sports. The programme of NCC, NSO shall be optional for the students other than those in the first and second year. The foreign nationals are exempted from these programmes. Immediately after admission of the University in the first semester, the Dean concerned/Director Students' Welfare shall complete the enrolment of students under the particular programme/scheme and forward the same to the Registrar for completing the personal files of the students. The students enrolled in a scheme, shall not ordinarily be allowed to change afterwards.
NCC programme is under the control of Deans of the constituent colleges whereas NSO and NSS programmes are under the control of this Directorate.
- National Sports Organisation (NSO)
- NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS)
Aims and Objects : National Sports Organisation is meant to impart intensive training and skill drills in various games to make students enrolled under this programme physically fit. This scheme serves as sports nursery for the formation of University teams which participate in All India India Inter-Varsity Tournaments.
Aims and Objectives : The overall objective of the NSS, as envisaged originally is service to the community, offered while undergoing instruction, in an educational institution. It is sought to arise the social consciousness of students and provide them with the opportunity to work with the people around the educational campuses creatively and constructively, and to put the education they receive to concrete social use. It has been felt that the primary aim of the scheme is to enable the students to upgrade their personality and experience through community service. Its end is the improvement of personality while service to community is a means through which such improvement is sought to be achieved. The objective of the scheme is ‘development of the personality of students through community service'.

INCENTIVES : To promote Sports and Cultural Activities, a number of incentives such as Grace Marks, Fee concession, Free Lodging etc. are provided to the outstanding sports persons and artists.

Gold Medals/Medals Instituted for Students
The University has instituted a number of Gold Medals/Medals for award to the students on fulfillment of certain prescribed conditions. These Gold Medals/Medals are conferred at the time of Annual Convocation of the University or prize distribution function-cum-convocation of the respective colleges. The detail is as under:

- Dr. P. N. THAPAR GOLD MEDAL : This medal has been named after Dr. P.N. This medal is awarded to the student who is adjudged as the best all round graduate of this University during a year.
- Dr. SUKHDYAL NIJHAWAN MEDAL : This medal has been named after Dr. Sukhdyal Nijhawan, a Soil Scientist of international fame. This medal is awarded to a student who secures the highest OCPA (not less than 8.00) from amongst the students of B.Sc. Agriculture (Hons) with elective of Soil Science, Agronomy and Agroforestry, who opt for Experiential Learning Programme in Soil Science in the last semester of the degree programmes.
- Dr. RAM DHAN SINGH MEDAL : This medal has been named after a great plant breeder of International fame. This medal is awarded to most outstanding undergraduate student who obtains the highest Overall Credit Point Average, (not less than 8.00) amongst the students of B.Sc. Agril. (Honors in Plant Breeding, Genetics and Biotechnology).
- S. S. LABH SINGH MEDAL : Professor Labh Singh was founder of LSS variety of cotton premier American Variety which revolutionized cotton production in the state. This medal is awarded to a student securing the highest OCPA (not less than 8.00) amongst the students of B.Sc. Agriculture (Hons.) with elective of Agronomy, Soil Science, Agroforestry who opt for Experiential Learning Programme in Agronomy in the last semester of the degree programmes.
- Dr JIWAN SINGH SIDHU MEDAL : This medal has been named after Dr Jiwan Singh Sidhu who was former Head, Department of Food Sciences & Technology, PAU Ludhiana. This medal is awarded to the next to toper eligible student with OCPA (not less than 8.00) amongst the students of B.Tech. Food Technology.
- Dr JAGDISH CHAND THAKUR MEDAL : This Medal is awarded to the most outstanding undergraduate student who obtains the highest OCPA but (not less than 8.00) amongst the students of B.Sc. Agriculture (Hons) in elective subject of Horticulture.
POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES
- Dr JUGRAJ SINGH DHILLON MEDAL : This medal has been named after Dr Jugraj Singh Dhillon, a renowned Animal Breeder who served PAU as Dean, College of Veterinary Sciences and strived hard throughout his professional career towards improving the quality of teaching and research, laying a great emphasis on holistic development of students through co-curricular activities. This medal is awarded to a student who is adjudged as the best all round student in Mater's programme of PAU for an academic year.
- SARDAR KARTAR SINGH KAHLON GOLD MEDAL : Sardar Kartar Singh Kahlon was a great agriculturist, who contributed immensely to the development of horticulture in Punjab and reclamation of large tracts of waste land in the state. This medal is awarded to a student who is adjudged as the best all round student in M.Sc. (Agri) in the University.
- Dr AVTAR SINGH ATWAL GOLD MEDAL : Dr. A.S. Atwal was a great entomologist who introduced Italian honey bee into India. He was Dean, College of Agriculture twice and also served as Dean Postgraduate Studies of PAU. He was the founder President of Indian Ecological Society. This medal is awarded to the best student of the University adjudged on the basis of academic achievements including the quality of research work of M.Sc./M.Tech.
- BHAI BAL MUKAND MEDAL : Bhai Bal Mukand rendered outstanding service as an Assistant professor of Mathematics and Physics, Agriculture College, Lyallpur. He significantly contributed to the development of this premier institute during its formative stages. This medal is awarded to the student securing the highest OCPA (not less than 8.00) in M.Sc. Mathematics/Physics/Statistics.
- SARDAR BAHADUR LAL SINGH MEDAL : Sardar Bahadur Lal Singh was the First Director of Agriculture of Punjab and was responsible for establishing Agriculture College of Ludhiana which ultimately develop into PAU. In recognition of his services, Postgradutae Laborites have been named after him. This medal is awarded to the student who secures the highest OCPA (not less than 8.00) in M.Sc. Horticulture (Fruit Science).
- Dr SARDAR SINGH MEDAL : Dr Sardar Singh was the renowned Entomologist. He served various organizations for 30 years and was also the Plant Protection advisor to the Government of India as well as Director of Locust Control to Government of India. This medal is awarded to the student who secures the highest OCPA (not less than 8.00) in M.Sc. entomology.
- SARDAR IQBAL SINGH DHILLON MEDAL : Sardar Iqbal Singh Dhillon was one of the most eminent farmers of the state and was known as 'Potato King' for promoting cultivation of potatoes in the state. This Medal is awarded to the student who secures the highest OCPA (not less than 8.00) in M.Sc. Plant Breeding & Genetics.
- Dr M. S. RANDHAWA MEDAL : Dr. M. S. Randhawa was an eminent scientist, administrator, educationist, art critic and lover of nature and sports. This University owes special debt of gratitude to him for taking it to international standards. The faculty and students cherish the memory of this leader as Vice-Chancellor. This medal is awarded to a student who writes best essay on 'Evolution of life.'
- Dr. NARINDER SINGH RANDHAWA MEDAL : Dr. Narinder Singh Randhawa was an eminent Soil Scientist and an able administrator. He rose to the position of Director General of I.C.A.R. and bagged many National and International Awards. This medal is awarded to the student who secures the highest OCPA (not less than 8.00) in M.Sc. Soil Sciences.
- Dr. GURBAKHSH SINGH GILL MEDAL : Dr. Gurbakhsh Singh Gill played a key role in making cultivation of New Mexican Dwarf Wheat varieties a great success in the Punjab state and was owned with Dr Borlaug Gold Medal. This medal is awarded to the student who secures the highest OCPA (not less than 8.00) in M.Sc. Agronomy.
- Dr. K. KIRPAL SINGH MEDAL : Dr. K. Kirpal Singh did a yeoman's service in rehabilitating fruit industry in Punjab. He was the first Director of Extension Education at PAU. He also served as Dean, Postgraduate Studies and was awarded Padma Shri in 1972. This medal is awarded to the student who secures the highest OCPA (not less than 8.00) in M.Sc. Food Technology.
- LATA MAHAJAN CHINNAN MEDAL : Lata Mahajan Chinnan, M.Sc. (Biochemistry) had been a outstanding hockey player who represented India in the first Women Hockey World Cup in 1976 in France. This medal is awarded to the best 'girl athlete' of the University.
- Dr B. R. SHARMA MEDAL : Dr B.R. Sharma served as Head of the Department of Vegetable Science, PAU and later became Vice Chancellor Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan. This medal is awarded to a student who secures the highest OCPA (not less than 8.00) in M.Sc. Horticulture (Vegetable Science).
- SHRI PURAN ANAND ADLAKHA MEDAL : This Medal has been named after Shri Puran Anand Adlakha who was an eminent teacher of Botany at PAU. This medal is awarded to a student who secures the highest OCPA (not less than 8.00) based on the joint merit of the students in M.Sc. Botany, Zoology and Microbiology.
- Dr G.S. SIDHU MEDAL : Dr GS Sidhu has been founder Head of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, PAU and was renowned Biochemist. He served as Senior Principal Research Scientist, CSIRO, Food Research Laboratories, New South Wales, Australia. This medal is awarded to a student who secures the highest OCPA (not less than 8.00) in M.Sc. Biochemistry.
- Dr GURMAIL SINGH DHALIWAL MEDAL : Dr Gurmail Singh Dhaliwal, former Professor of Ecology, PAU, Ludhiana is a renowned Entomologist and Ecologist. He has authored/edited a number of books on different aspects of pest management, environment and sustainable agriculture. This medal is awarded to the all round best M.Sc. Entomology student with OCPA not less than 8.00.
- Dr MANJIT SINGB KANG MEDAL : Dr Manjit Singh Kang served as Professor of Genetics, Louisiana State University, USA. He has edited several books on quantitative genetics and has been owned the editorial board of many International Journals. He also served as Vice Chancellor of PAU, Ludhiana. This medal is awarded to a student who secures the highest OCPA (not less than 8.00) in M.Sc. Biotechnology.
- LALA SRI RAM JI MEDAL : Lala Sri Ram Ji dedicated his life to the growth of industry, agriculture, commerce in India. He was a great industrialist and guided many educational industrial and agricultural organizations. This medal is awarded to a student securing the highest OCPA (not less than 8.00) in M.B.A. programme in the University.
- Dr BHUPINDER SINGH SEKHON MEDAL : Dr Bhupinder Singh Sekhon had been the Head, Department of Biochemistry and Chemistry, PAU Ludhiana and was a renowned Chemist. This medal is awarded to a student with highest OCPA (not less than 8.00) based on the joint merit of the students of M.Sc. Chemistry and Five Year Integrated M.Sc. Chemistry (Hons) Programme.
- HARSUKH MEDAL : Harsukh Medal shall be awarded to the best all round graduate among all the Bachelor Degree programme of the College of Agriculture.
Placement Cell / Objectives
The cell is responsible for arranging of campus interviews with the employer organization for selection of our pre-final/final year students.
- To identify network and liaison with the perspective employer and arrange on campus interviews for pre-final and final year students of Punjab Agricultural University.
- To maintain a computerized data base of students and employer as a ready reckon for both its job seekers and its job provider.
- To guide and council students to make right carrier choice.
- To provide socially inclusive opportunities to academically weak students to improve their academic performance.
- To undertake personal enrichment activities to improve personality, communication skills and professional competency of PAU students.

Students Home
The Students' Home building developed as a fully fledged central hub of activities for the students of PAU was inaugurated by former Vice Chancellor Dr. M.S. Randhawa on 15th August, 1971. The primary objective of the Students' Home is to utilize spare time of the students in the best possible manners by providing various facilities for their knowledge, comfort and relaxation.
The Building of Students Home consist of a large glazed reading room with comfortable sofas and tables for the sitting arrangement and racks for latest magazines and news papers in English, Punjabi and Hindi. It has an auditorium with sitting capacity of 150 persons for organizing functions, seminars and parties of students and staff members. Art exhibitions are also being arranged for students and staff from time to time. Two canteens carter to the needs of the students, staff members and their guests by providing them hot and cold drinks, sweets and snacks at reasonable rates. Stationary items PCO facilities and photostat machines are also provide within the complex. A free of cost internet facility is also available for the students.
The university provides free medical facility to its bonafide students. The office of Director Students' Welfare issues medical files to the bonafied students of the University through Welfare Officer for their treatment in PAU Hospital. The bus, railway and air travel concessions and stickers for their two wheelers i.e. motor cycles, scooters, mopeds etc to ensure entry in to PAU campus are also issued to the bonafied students of the university.
